Uhuburg is thrilled to announce our first-ever ball! Join us for an afternoon ball prep workshop, explore Uhuburg, then jump into a night of delight as we dance the night away in the Great Hall of a castle. Dress to impress and get ready for an English Country dance you won't forget.

The Details

Parking
Parking opens at 12:30 for dancers. Shuttle service will be provided between lower level parking and the castle from 12:30 to 5:00, 6:00 to 8:30 and 9:30 to 11:00.

Workshop
All dancers are welcome, but some experience is recommended. The afternoon session will be focused on the more challenging ball dances. During the evening limited walk throughs will be provided.

Dinner on your Own
Enjoy dinner in downtown Helen or bring a picnic to enjoy on Uhuburg grounds. Benches can be found throughout the courtyard grounds, and water fountains and public restrooms will be available in the Great Hall. Helen is approximately one mile from Uhuburg and has many restaurants. Summer Saturdays are often busy in Helen, so expect some wait time.

Explore Uhuburg
Enjoy the castle grounds, wall promenades, and Lookout Tower! When the evening ball begins, all castle grounds close except for the Great Hall. Water fountains and public restrooms are available in the Great Hall.

Attire & What to Bring
Water bottle, walking shoes for exploring Uhuburg and dance shoes are recommended. Ball costumes and historic attire are encouraged but not required. Public restrooms are available for changing.

What is English Country Dancing?
English Country dance (ECD) is a social dance from 16th century England. It can be seen in well known stories such as Pride and Prejudice and Bridgerton.

Swordsmanship Workshops & Demos
Sept 21 & 22, 2024
Try your hand at Medieval Swordsmanship with Appalachian Sword Club!
Join us for a dynamic and exciting experience in the Medieval art of swordsmanship through the lens of historical manuscripts with Danial and Ash! Hosting a series of mini workshops throughout the day, they will do demonstrations, discuss highlights of using the manuscripts, and provide hands-on experience with swords for interested participants. Danial and Ash work with local fencing clubs and Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA).

Participation is included in Day Visit tickets on the workshop dates listed.
Demos & hands on opportunities will run continuously through the day.

Join us for contra dancing at Uhuburg! Explore Uhuburg and then jump into the joy of contra in Uhuburg's Great Hall.

The Details
Shuttle service between parking and castle will run from 6:00-8:00pm and 9:30-11pm.
All dancers are welcome, but some experience is recommended.
When dance begins, all castle grounds close except for the Great Hall.
Tickets are non-refundable but are transferrable to other dancers coming to this event - please contact us at info@uhuburg.com to change the registration name.
What to Bring
Water bottle, walking shoes and dance shoes to change into are recommended. Water fountains are available near public restrooms.

Creator Day will be rescheduled due to overwhelming interest for a different date. Ticket holders are being notified.​

An all day, limited-ticket event for content creators to have extended access to Uhuburg for capturing stunning and imaginative photoshoots. Grab your photoshoot buddy or tripod and make a day of it!

Calendar
The 2024 schedule is up and running with swordsmanship, Uhuburg's inaugural Ball and Contra Dance, and our brand new photoshoot event called Creator Day (date tbd!). We look forward to hosting events such as seasonal festivals, creator workshops, family days and contra dances. As a place of learning, Uhuburg will offer workshops related to applications of philosophy, independent thinking, nature, geology, and practical gardening.
